It all started with Ethiopia, they were the first to design their flag with these colors as they stood as an independent nation.
They were also one of the first members African members of the League of Nations.
As African nations began to emerge as a country, many of the countries designed their flag in a similar color design to that of Ethiopia.
Ethiopia first adopted its national flag carrying these colors (green, yellow, and red colors) on 11 October 1897.
The independence of other African countries came after world war II.
And as they adopted the colors on their flag, it became an African thing.
Hence the reason it is referred to as Pan African colors.
The interesting thing is that there are many countries with these colors on their flag.
Outside Africa, there are several other countries with this same color combination on their international flag.
These include but are not limited to Ecuador, Colombia, Hungary, the United Kingdom, etc.
This means it is not just in Africa that we have lots of country flags with these 3 color combinations.
Apart from countries using these colors on their flag, it was also discovered that lots of organizations and government parastatals used this same color combination for their flag designs.
This is one of the reasons why these color combinations became more popular on flags.
For instance, Los Angeles in the United States.
Some have other colors added to them.
These three colors seem to be a well-used color on flags all over the world.
There are flags with more designs but well placed on these three colors.
And some have more colors added to these three colors.
So, these colors are nothing short of international flag colors.
